A Client's SyteLine Transformation
I believe receiving feedback from clients is so important. Hearing what works well, and ideas for improvements, helps me stay focused on what clients need and want. And while a use case may not always translate exactly, I'm also a huge fan of sharing ideas and having discussions about how other clients have made SyteLine work for them. You never know where a conversation will lead, or what key phrase will be that "Aha!" moment that helps someone take SyteLine to the next level. I'm often referencing one or more of the solutions I helped architect for a specific client and decided it just made sense to share the full story here with all of you:
Question: What was it like using SyteLine (CSI) prior to your engagement with Glass Box Consulting and Stacey Miller?
Answer: Before we started working with Glass Box Consulting, we were using SyteLine 6.01 and were in the process of transitioning to CSI 10.0. We believed we were using SyteLine 6.01 efficiently, but in reality, we were still heavily reliant on manual spreadsheets. As we moved into CSI 10.0, frustration grew. The training materials provided by Infor didn’t offer the guidance we needed for the transition—they were too generic and not particularly helpful. Moreover, the consultants we were working with didn’t fully grasp the functionality of the financial and accounting modules within CSI. We realized we needed to bring in another resource to make the transition successful, and that’s when we found Stacey Miller and Glass Box Consulting.
Question: How did things change after you started working with Stacey?
Answer: The change was significant. Stacey’s deep knowledge of CSI and her understanding of our accounting requirements were exactly what we needed. She could talk through our existing processes and not only help us implement them within CSI but also suggest improvements. With her assistance, we were able to automate several key processes, such as:
- Artist Royalties: We replaced a manual, spreadsheet-heavy process with automated calculations and postings for monthly and quarterly artist royalties.
- Accruals for Customer Programs: She helped us automate the calculation and posting of monthly accruals for customer programs and defective allowances.
- Landed Cost Functionality: We transitioned from a cumbersome Excel-based process involving multiple people to utilizing CSI’s landed cost functionality.
- Financial Reporting: We realized that CSI’s built-in financial reporting wasn’t meeting our needs, so Stacey helped us develop a new process using CSI G/L period totals. This allowed us to prepare financial statements that were tailored to our specific requirements.
- Focused Training: Stacey provided targeted training for our accounting teams, cutting through the overwhelming amount of information and honing in on what was necessary for a successful implementation.
Question: How would you describe the overall process of working with Glass Box?
Answer: The process was really smooth. Once we were able to focus on the specifics, rather than getting bogged down by generalities, we could clearly see the path to a successful implementation. Stacey was instrumental in helping us maintain that focus.
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the training and Stacey’s knowledge of the software?
Answer: I’d rate both at a solid 10. Her expertise was exactly what we needed, and the training was spot on.
Question: What do you think had the biggest impact on how you use and feel about using SyteLine now?
Answer: The biggest impact was Stacey’s knowledge of accounting functions and how those can be implemented within CSI’s functionality. Her understanding of both our specific processes and the nuances of our business led directly to our success with the implementation and ongoing use of CSI-SyteLine.
Question: Is there any other feedback you’d like to share?
Answer: Stacey earned the respect of our entire accounting staff. They all felt that she took the time to understand their day-to-day functions, identified areas for improvement, and helped everyone reach a level of comfort when using CSI.
